About
Australian rules football in Austria has been played since 2004, when the nation’s first club was founded in Vienna. Currently, there are two active clubs in the country, the Vienna Galahs from the capital and the Styrian Down Under Dogs from Austria’s second biggest city, Graz.
Together with other central European countries, AFL Austria is organising the Empire Cup to bring together teams from smaller footy nations all across Central Europe (Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Poland). Both the Galahs and the Dogs are currently participating in the Empire Cup.
The emphasis of AFL Austria is on further growing and developing our great sport in Austria, establishing new clubs, especially women’s and youth teams, and welcoming into our clubs both Aussie expats as well as locals from Austria and players from all around the world interested in trying out footy.
