Belushi’s Presents: Player Spotlight

Mikkel Norlander

Each week, AFL Europe in combination with Belushi’s will take a look at one of our star players competing in fixtures across the continent in Player Spotlight.

Will Taylor – AFL Europe

Having kicked over 700 goals over 200 plus games across 20 years, Mikkel Norlander is without a doubt an Australian Football star across Europe.

On Saturday, this veteran of the sport played his final game of footy for the Farum Cats in the DAFL putting an end to a truly remarkable career.

Known once upon a time as “The Danish Lance Franklin”, Mikkel has done just about it all in Australian Football.

A representative for the Danish National Team while giving it his all for the blue and white stripes in the DAFL, Mikkel has been able to play the game at a club and national level.

Along the way the Dane has had the chance to bring others into the game. Through coaching juniors and senior sides alike to fulfilling the occasional umpiring gig across Denmark, the Cats superstar has been a leader to many wishing to take part in Australian Football through the nation.

In typical Mikkel fashion, the Danish superstar’s final outing in the blue and white stripes did not disappoint. After his team trailed the Copenhagen Giants by three points at the major break, Mikkel’s five goals earned him best on ground honours as he lifted his side to give them a 33-point victory in Lyngholmskolen, Farum.

As a sportsman who was able to finish his career just as well as he started it, Mikkel will certainly be missed not just in Denmark, but by the entire AFL Europe community across the continent.
