London All-Stars set for VAFA clash!
This Sunday 15th October sees the return of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) on English soil after their last visit two years ago.
The VAFA tour Ireland and the UK every two years and have spent 2 weeks in Ireland so far having played 3 matches of International Rules against Bishopstown, Tuam Stars and Donaghmore Ashbourne. They now make their way to London to take on an AFL London representative side in a hit-out of traditional Aussie Rules.
The London All-Stars are made up of players from the AFL London league which plays over the summer months in the capital. AFL London (formly BARFL) played its first season in 1990 with 8 clubs participating. The 2017 season saw 3 men’s and 2 women’s divisions played for the first time in the competitions 28-year history.
The side had their final training run on Thursday night and are in good shape heading into Sunday’s match. The match will be played at the picturesque King’s Meadow in Reading with both sides making the journey on the team bus on Sunday morning.
Belushi’s in Hammersmith will be hosting the two sides and supporters on Sunday night for all of those footy fans in the capital looking to join in on the post-game action.
