Match of the Round

It’s set to be an exciting round for Scotland Aussie Rules Football League (SARFL) this weekend as the Kingdom Kangaroos face up against the Glasgow Sharks in Round 7 of the 2017 season.

The two teams, the Kangaroos and the Sharks, are both counting on a win this round to improve their spots on the SARFL ladder. The Roos in particular are depending on this match as they currently have 1 win and 2 losses under their belts in the 2017 season. They’re considering their clash against the Sharks an “absolute must win game”, but say that their team is at it’s strongest this week with a fantastic side lined up for Saturday’s match.

The Kangaroos are confident that their full strength side will give them an edge over the Sharks, saying that if they play to their full ability, they’re sure that they can come out on top this round. The Kangaroos Coach, Wayne Sullivan, commented “We’re looking good, but it’s a big game for both clubs. We’re fairly confident we can compete as we have a strong side – and it’s like a final for us so we won’t be holding anything back”.

The Kangaroos’ most recent win was against the Edinburgh Bloods back in round four. This was a huge milestone for the club as they were yet to beat the Bloods since their introduction to the SARFL league in 2013. They managed to defeat Edinburgh 96-51 and will be hoping to muster this same energy this weekend in their attempt to take down the Sharks and move their way up the SARFL ladder.

As the 2016 reigning premiers of AFL Scotland, the Sharks have a lot riding on their match against the Roos this weekend as they fight to hold onto their title. It’s been a tough season for them so far as they’ve been taken down twice by the Greater Glasgow Giants in replays of the 2016 Grand Final. Both of their clashes against the Giants have been absolute nail biters with very narrow losses for the Sharks, as they’ve gone down by less than a goal in each match.

The side the Sharks have lined up for this weekend is providing a little more grunt and physicality than the team has provided so far this season. The Glasgow Sharks’ Coach says that youngster Liam Dolling will be the player to watch this round as he makes his AFL Scotland debut for the Sharks. Liam “has great skills and should he perform well we would see him overtaking some of our more experienced players. He has been focusing on his exams lately so he should be raring to go now and will hopefully have a stellar game”.

Good luck to both the Kingdom Kangaroos and the Glasgow Sharks with their match this weekend. We’re looking forward to seeing how this match turns out – look out for it in Around the Grounds next week!
