PSS Presents: Around the Grounds

Each week, AFL Europe will take a look at some of the football highlights around the continent in Around the Grounds presented by PSS International Removals. Here are the standout performances from the weekend’s action.

Bloods, Roos and Sharks all get wins in Scotland

In a triple header in Scotland, it was Edinburgh Bloods and Kingdom Kangaroos who recorded crucial wins in the SARFL, while the Glasgow Sharks showed their prowess in an impressive display in an exhibition against the West Lothian Eagles.

Having beaten the Eagles last week, the Bloods continued their good form with an impressive display over the Greater Glasgow Giants. In a very competitive fixture, it was the Bloods who got the better of the Giants by 37-points. Holding the momentum for the majority of the match, the Kangaroos put in a solid performance to dethrone the Tyne Tee Tigers.

Their victory came off the back of some brilliant performances in the midfield and up-forward, including a five-goal haul to Jamie Koo. In the third game in Scotland over the weekend, the Eagles once again showed improvement but were eventually outclassed by the Glasgow Sharks by 59-points. The game leaves West Lothian needing to play just 80 more minutes of footy to qualify for the SARFL next year.

Final Scores (SARFL/Exhibition):

Edinburgh Bloods (93) defeated Greater Glasgow Giants (56)

Kingdom Kangaroos (100) defeated Tyne Tee Tigers (63)

Glasgow Sharks (130) defeated West Lothian Eagles (71)

AFL London take part in Pride

Walking as part as one with AFL London, the Australian Football clubs in the English capital came out in big numbers walking through the streets as the Pride in London March kicked off on Saturday. The iconic Parade that culminates in free Trafalgar Square performances saw 30,000 people involved and over 470 organisations taking part in this year’s edition. Our clubs in London were extremely well represented with guys and girls from all clubs taking part in the action.

Brilliant Belfast continue good form

After chalking up another two wins on Saturday, it seems as though the Belfast Redbacks are in a prime position to take the 2018 ARFLI title. On Saturday, the Redbacks made it seven wins from seven games after defeating the South Dublin Swans and Leeside Lions on their home deck. Still undefeated in 2018, the Redbacks closest competition seems to be the Lions, who despite losing to Belfast last weekend still remain firmly in control of second spot on the ARFLI ladder.

Taster session brings results in Edinburgh

While the Edinburgh Bloods boys were playing against the West Lothian Eagles, some of their girls were running a ‘Women’s Footy Taster Session’ to promote the game with their gender in their city. Playing down at Union Park, AFL Scotland helped run the event which saw new girls learning the basics of the game and having a lot of fun in the process! With 8 potential new players for Edinburgh and a few more for clubs around Scotland, the event was a success for the organisation.
